In the Driver’s: TaylorMade, Cobra and KZG introduce drivers with all the latest technology

May 2008; From PGA Magazine

For your members and customers looking to improve their respective early-season games, new drivers and putters may be just the answer.

TaylorMade’s Tour Burner driver ($399) features “Dual Crown Technology,” which essentially means that it bears a thin triangular crown with a rounded skirt below. That bottom portion is a second crown that’s weighted to help the ball launch higher and with low spin – adding roughly 10 yards to tee shots, say officials. The 6-4 titanium driver also features the company’s Inverted Cone Technology behind the clubface, lightweight SuperFast shaft and grip, and a crown alignment aid. A fixed weight on the rear sole tunes the swing weight.

The all-new 2008 King Cobra Speed LD driver ($375) has maxed-out USGA clubhead length and width regulations – that helps lower the CG. The club’s MOI also exceeds the 5,000 level for plenty of forgiveness. The company’s trademark Fastback Crown and Dual Rhombus face insert also are designed to maximize ball speed across the face for longer, straighter drives. Offered in F/Speed and M/Speed Straight Neck, Offset, Senior’s and Women’s models.

KZG’s 460cc Q driver ($389), constructed of one-piece vacuum-cast titanium, is designed to hit shots straight with forgiveness – thanks to a high MOI of 5,450. A low CG helps launch the ball high. It’s available in various lofts, and has no scorelines on the clubface.

The Pro Optic putters ($49.99) from Tour Edge sport a visual alignment aid across the entire top of the club. Approximately the width of a ball, the alignment aid helps square the club to the target line. A thermoplastic elastomer face insert provides a responsive feel and helps generate a true roll, while a dual-material grip enhances feel.
